The Journey and the Work

As we continue to navigate through this period of uncertainty, the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19, the short and long-term impacts that this pandemic will have on all our stakeholders and communities, I’m reminded that this work and journey is not new to Berkshire Bank. It’s a continuation of the work we have always done. For more than 170 years, we’ve been working alongside our neighbors when they opened the doors to their small businesses and their first homes. We’ve been there through natural disasters, economic downturns, world wars and other pandemics. We may feel like the very fabric of our well-being, country and community is being tested, and it is, but we will, just as we always have, persevere.

At Berkshire, we’re guided by our purpose, culture and vision.

· Our purpose is to financially empower our communities, reduce the wealth gap and help everyone realize life’s exciting moments.

· Our culture is anchored by our Be FIRST values, creating an environment that fosters belonging, diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility.

· Our vision is to thrive as a financial institution, operating responsibly and investing in our people and communities while maintaining sustainable returns. Strong 21st century companies do great work that prioritizes people, profit and the planet.

Earlier this month, we released our 2019 Corporate Responsibility Report, Leading the Way Forward: Purpose-Driven Performance. The report is a snapshot in a time that now seems so long ago, but highlights our performance across environmental, social, governance, and cultural topics material to our business. These results and our report are an example of how we will navigate and lead in our new environment. We have and will continue to do the meaningful work that supports all our stakeholders and our vision of a 21st century community bank that delivers purpose-driven performance.

We hope that this report, which highlights the work we have already done and will continue to do, will invigorate all us for the journey ahead.

With Gratitude,

Gary Levante
