Douglas Spencer | Spencer Brenneman
The month of May is traditionally the celebration of Small Business Month. Due to COVID-19 advisories and focus towards relief efforts, this year’s celebration of small business week has been postponed to a later date in 2020.
We’re excited to celebrate with the small business community later this year. In the meantime, we also feel the importance of highlighting small businesses in our footprint now more than ever.
This month we have been featuring some of the incredible small businesses within the Berkshire Bank family, while highlighting some need to know truths about small business and their impact on the overall wellness of our economy.
Today, we are celebrating Douglas Spencer
Can you tell us a bit more about your company?
Founded in 2014, Spencer Brenneman, LLC helps mission-driven leaders get their visions out of their heads, incorporated into their organization’s strategy, and shared with the world in engaging and memorable ways.
What’s something your company has worked on that you’re most proud of? Why does this part of the work resonate with you the most?
Last year, we worked with the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce to help them define their mission more thoroughly and integrate it into their strategy and operations. The work resonates on many levels: it continues to have impact, inspire creative ideas, and build relationships throughout the Commonwealth.
What was your first job? What did you love most about it?
Working in the family sawmill, mostly piling lumber and loading it onto a truck with a forklift. I loved seeing the work come together at the end of the day, after hours of what seemed like one monotonous task after another. It also gave me a profound respect for people who make their livings through manual labor.
What is the most important piece of advice you have been given about money and/or owning a business? Who gave it to you?
Money is called currency for a reason. It is a current that should come in and out of our lives in measured and meaningful ways.
How would you say your company/organization positively impacts the community?
We help mission-driven organizations do what they do better.
How can people best support you during these times?
Let us help them! We have a lot of unchartered territories ahead of us and having a clear focus and a compelling message will be the required costs of entry. We can help!
