The Doing Our Best Home Office Challenge was created with the intention of spreading the message of empathy, understanding and community during this COVID-19 global crisis, and providing our team members with a fun outlet to stay connected through these uncertain times.

This week, and throughout the coming weeks, we are sharing some of our employees more in-depth stories behind some of their work from home experiences. Each week will feature a different story.

This week, we have Erin Lis, Branch Operations Representative.

What does Doing Our Best mean to you during these times?

Rolling with the punches. Many of us are taking on new tasks and helping other departments. Learning new jobs and not having the in-person support we would normally have in the office setting can be overwhelming, but we have all come together stronger than ever through this.

What’s one thing you’ve enjoyed learning about yourself during these times?

I am stronger than I thought I was, both mentally and physically.

What’s most important to you in your current work from home environment and workspace?

A comfortable space to work in, that isn’t part of my normal living area. It’s important to still keep the work and home environments separate as much as possible.

If you’re working with others (i.e. partners, children/dependents, pets) who are also at home during this time, what’s one funny story that you can recall and share?

My main job function is to assist branch staff via phone calls. I was on the phone with a branch employee and we were discussing how I liked working from home. I mentioned that it was different, not all that bad, but I wouldn’t mind going back to the office, as my entire family has been home with me and I needed a break from them. Apparently my 17 year old daughter overheard me, stuck her head in my office and yelled “Hey!!! I heard that!!!” At least she was being humorous and we all got a good laugh out of it. By the way, I still want to go back to the office!

What gives you hope or comfort during this time?

I have to tell myself that this is only temporary. Someday we will go back to normal, or as close to what our normal was. This won’t last forever.

FUN FACT

Erin Lis also serves as a volunteer firefighter and EMT!
