Can you tell us a bit more about your organization?

Since our founding in 1983, the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective has provided quality service by professional and highly skilled staff and volunteers in a safe and welcoming environment, free of judgmental attitudes or prejudice. It all boils down to a simple equation. Just take our mission statement: The Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective empowers individuals of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and gender expressions to lead healthy lives through the provision of health and support services, education and advocacy. Combine it with CVS Health’s community generosity and you get: Programs and services are utilized by people from all over the state: HIV testing & counseling, PAP testing, Hepatitis A & B vaccination, Gardasil shots, STD diagnosis and treatment, breast exams, pelvic exams and mammogram referrals. Plus, our referral list of LGBTQ friendly providers, Queer Prom, MPowerment support group, services for people living with HIV/AIDS and more.

What’s something your company has worked on that you’re most proud of?

Our Dental Program was begun in 1997 to provide dental services to people living with HIV/AIDS. We were the first agency in CT to provide such services. Over the years, the department has grown and we provide outstanding dental care for both Ryan White clients and the general public.

What was your first job?

I worked at Wendy’s when I was 16. I really enjoyed working with the public and helping them.

What is the most important piece of advice you have been given about money and/or owning a business?

My parents always stressed saving money and not to go into debt.

How would you say your company/organization positively impacts the community?

Providing a variety of judgement free services in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We provide information on a variety of topics that people reach out to us.
